1.Coordinator’s Role, CYS Space Census Team Responsibilities, and CYS Space Census Operating Principles

Overview

As CYS Coordinator, you are the “Mission Commander” for all the Child & Youth Services (CYS) Space Census Odyssey travelers. Different members of the CYS team have various levels of knowledge and experience in conducting their parts of the CYS space census (CDC, FCC, SA or Y or T), but it is your job to bring all elements together and make decisions based on the results.

This lesson will explore the CYS Coordinator’s role and the CYS Space Census Team responsibilities.

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Explain the coordinator’s role in setting the stage, providing support, bringing elements together, and developing and supporting the CYS Space Census Team
  • Identify the Coordinator’s project management role in managing the Space Census project and creating buy-in.

2.Child & Youth Services (CYS) Space Census Operating Principles

Overview
You must keep some basic operating principles in mind as you lead your team through the Space Census process, evaluate the resulting data, and make program decisions based on the results. Applying these principles and completing the CYS Space Census can help you answer the following questions.

Is your CYS program on target?
Is it meeting Army Standards?

This lesson will explore the CYS Space Census Operating Principles.

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Identify CYS Space Census operating principles and ground rules used for analyzing data and guiding program decisions for each program type.
  • Apply appropriate ground rules for CDC, FCC, and SA or Y or T Space Census.

3.Child Development Center (CDC) Space Census Basics for CYS Coordinators

This lesson provides an overview of the Child Development Center (CDC) Space Census. This is only an overview. Specific details for the procedures for conducting each program specific Space Census are contained in the corresponding Space Census Course.

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Identify the steps and review the worksheets involved in the CDC Space Census
  • Explain the CYS Coordinator’s role in initiating, overseeing, and ensuring completion of the CDC Space Census

4.Family Child Care (FCC) Space Census Basics for CYS Coordinators

5.School Age/Youth/Teen (SA or Y or T) Center Space Census Basics for CYS Coordinators

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Explain the CYS Coordinator’s role in initiating, overseeing and ensuring completion of the SA or Y or T Center Space Census

6.Putting it all Together: Installation Space Census Roll-up

Overview
The Installation Space Census Roll-up uses information from several CYS programs and looks at the numbers from several angles such as by age and by program. The Child/Youth Space Census Roll-Up Tool numbers are your total installation spaces. This is where you learn how well your installation CYS is meeting Army Metrics.

At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Explain how the CYS Coordinator uses Installation CYS Space Census Roll Up to provide a comprehensive picture of all the child care spaces on an installation.
  • Compare Installation Roll-Up information to Army Metrics, and identify ways the CYS Coordinator can use this information
